The AML CFT Compliance Officer will support the Bank in promoting strong Anti Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism compliance objectives. The role focuses on strengthening the AML CFT compliance culture, monitoring and reporting suspicious activities, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting the Bank’s risk management and governance framework.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct and regularly update the Bank’s AML CFT CPF risk assessment.
Champion AML CFT CPF compliance initiatives across all lines of business to strengthen compliance culture.
Act as a key reference point for AML CFT CPF related issues within the business.
Identify and monitor suspicious transactions related to money laundering, terrorism financing, and proliferation financing, with focus on high risk customers.
Receive, review, investigate, and escalate Suspicious Transaction Reports to the MLRO.
Perform sanctions, politically exposed persons, and adverse media screening.
Monitor transactions, investigate alerts, and ensure timely closure or escalation of issues.
Ensure customer screening at onboarding and periodic reviews against sanctions lists, internal caution lists, blacklists, and PEP databases.
Conduct enhanced reviews of high risk customers and newly opened accounts for compliance.
Carry out AML CFT CPF risk checks on new products and services before launch.
Prepare and file AML CFT CPF compliance reports and respond promptly to regulatory requests from bodies such as CBK, FRC, EACC, KRA, and KBA.
Attend AML CFT CPF related meetings with external stakeholders as the compliance representative.
Support implementation of a bank wide AML CFT CPF program through staff training and awareness initiatives.
Maintain up to date knowledge of AML CFT CPF regulations, sanctions, typologies, and emerging risks.
Track and monitor closure of management actions from compliance reviews, regulator reports, and external audit findings.
Prepare monthly and quarterly AML CFT CPF reports for senior management, the Risk Management Committee, and the Board.
Report control weaknesses to the Senior Manager Compliance or MLRO and follow up on agreed corrective actions.
Execute additional duties assigned by the Senior Manager Compliance from time to time.
Key Competencies and Skills
Strong knowledge of the AML CFT regulatory environment.
Ability to understand, analyze, and document business processes and workflows.
Strong analytical, investigative, and monitoring skills.
Good report writing and presentation skills.
Working knowledge of Go AML system and AML compliance software applications.
High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical standards.
Good communication skills and proficiency in MS Office applications.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Banking, Law, Risk Management, or a related field.
Certification in Anti Money Laundering.
At least three (3) years of experience in the banking industry, with a minimum of one (1) year in an AML CFT CPF compliance role within an enterprise risk management framework.
