The Senior Credit Officer reports to the Finance Manager and oversees the hospital’s credit control operations. The role ensures timely billing, efficient collections, accurate account reconciliation, and effective credit risk management. It provides leadership to the Credit Team and supports sustainable cash flow aligned with the hospital’s financial goals and stewardship principles.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Control and Receivables Management
Oversee end-to-end credit processes including billing, invoicing, posting, collections, and reconciliations.
Monitor account performance and ensure timely collection of outstanding balances.
Liaise with SHA and Corporate Insurers to resolve claim denials, discrepancies, and payment delays.
Oversee preparation and submission of accurate monthly debtors’ aging and performance reports.
Ensure credit transactions comply with hospital policies and statutory requirements.
Recommend strategies to reduce bad debts and optimize working capital.
Leadership and Supervision
Lead, mentor, and appraise Credit Officers and Credit Clerks to ensure high performance and accountability.
Allocate tasks and set performance targets aligned with departmental objectives.
Provide training and coaching to enhance team competence in credit management and customer service.
Relationship and Stakeholder Management
Maintain strong communication with internal departments for seamless claim processing.
Build relationships with insurers, government agencies, and corporate clients to facilitate prompt settlements.
Participate in SHA and insurer meetings to resolve operational issues and respond to policy changes.
Policy, Compliance, and Reporting
Enforce compliance with the hospital’s Credit Policy and recommend improvements.
Prepare reports on collection trends, account performance, and credit risk analysis.
Ensure adherence to financial regulations, audit requirements, and internal controls.
Support internal and external audits by providing credit documentation and reconciliations.
Perform any other duties assigned by the Finance Manager or hospital management.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, or Credit Management) is an added advantage.
Minimum of 8 years’ credit management experience in hospital or insurance settings, including 3 years in supervision.
Expertise in SHA, NHIF, and corporate insurance billing and reconciliation.
Strong knowledge of healthcare finance systems, ERP billing modules, and credit control principles.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills.
High integrity and professionalism in handling sensitive financial data.
Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting systems such as Navision or SAP.
Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
