Tenwek Hospital, founded in 1937 and located in Bomet County, is a 419-bed Teaching and Referral Hospital under the Africa Gospel Church Kenya. It serves the wider South-West region of Kenya and is recognized for its excellence in healthcare, spiritual ministry, and training. The hospital seeks born-again Christian professionals with integrity, spiritual maturity, and a calling to serve.
Position: Registration and Billing Clerk
The Registration and Billing Clerk is responsible for accurately registering patients and generating billing statements while maintaining professionalism and compliance with hospital policies and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Capture accurate demographic information for all patients in the HMIS.
Process and follow up on insurance preauthorizations for medical bills.
Perform clerical duties related to registration and billing in accordance with hospital procedures.
Review cost sheets for discharged patients to ensure accuracy before billing.
Prepare billing statements for patients, insurance companies, and third parties.
Process refunds for overpaid accounts and prepare billing-related reports.
Analyze invoices for accuracy, completeness, and correct coding before invoicing.
Ensure claim documents are properly handled and complete admission/claim forms.
Provide clear communication and guidance to patients regarding hospital processes.
Batch and submit insurance claims (including NHIF) for processing and payment.
Verify that patient cards are valid and premiums are up to date to avoid claim rejections.
Uphold professional standards, hospital policies, and proper office etiquette.
Perform any other duties as assigned by management to support billing operations.
Qualifications
Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
CPA Part II / Intermediate Level and Certified Health Information Management Systems (CHIMS).
Membership with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).
1–2 years of clerical, accounting, or healthcare billing experience.
Key Competencies
Knowledge of medical billing software, documentation evaluation, and billing workflows.
Strong multitasking, time management, and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to learn new procedures, understand abstract ideas, and apply practical solutions.
Strong integrity, self-drive, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Good understanding of escalation processes and billing requirements.
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
