Quality Improvement Medical Officer

    M.P. Shah Hospital, one of East Africa’s leading tertiary healthcare institutions, is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Quality Improvement Medical Officer. The successful candidate will play a strategic role in advancing patient safety, clinical governance, and international accreditation standards.


    Reporting to the Manager, Risk and Quality Improvement, the Quality Improvement Medical Officer will operate at the intersection of clinical practice, data, governance, and accreditation while partnering with senior clinicians, service leaders, and executive stakeholders. The role will involve driving measurable improvements in clinical quality, leading investigations into sentinel events, coordinating accreditation readiness, and strengthening the hospital’s quality culture in line with global best practice.

    Position: Quality Improvement Medical Officer.
    Division: Medical.

    Reporting to: Manager, Risk and Quality Improvement.
    Location: M.P. Shah Hospital - Nairobi, Kenya.


    Key Responsibilities

    Lead hospital-wide development, review, and implementation of quality and patient safety policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.
    Interpret and operationalise quality frameworks within complex clinical environments.
    Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for sentinel events and adverse clinical outcomes.
    Design, analyse, and present clinical quality, safety, and utilisation data to inform decision-making.
    Coordinate corrective and preventive action plans arising from audits, surveys, and regulatory reviews.
    Lead Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives within the Medical Division.
    Actively participate in JCI accreditation, including the role of JCI Survey Coordinator.
    Support the implementation of ISO standards, AMUA, and KAIZEN methodologies.
    Participate in risk assessment, risk mitigation, and enterprise risk management collaboration.
    Mentor and build the capabilities of clinicians and departmental teams on quality improvement methodologies.
    Participate in benchmarking, innovation, and quality improvement research.


    Qualifications and Requirements

    The candidate should hold a medical or clinical degree, which is mandatory, with strong grounding in clinical care delivery.
    A postgraduate qualification in health, business, or management will be a distinct advantage.
    Have a minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience within a hospital or healthcare institution.
    Have a strong command of clinical governance, patient safety, and quality systems.
    Demonstrate capability in data analysis, reporting, and performance monitoring.
    Be confident working with senior clinicians and multidisciplinary teams.
    Have a proven ability to translate standards into practical, sustainable clinical improvements.
    Demonstrate high integrity, discipline, and a systems-thinking mindset.
