Java House is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Junior Baker. The successful candidate will support the preparation and production of bakery products while following recipes, food safety procedures, and trained standard operating procedures.

Position Details

Position: Junior Baker.
Employer: Java House.
Location: Nairobi, Kenya.
Vacancies: 5 (Five) Positions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Understand recipes used in baking and their proportions.
Follow recipes keenly and precisely and quickly identify issues.
Interpret and measure ingredients correctly with minimal supervision.
Operate batter and dough mixers effectively.
Ensure all baked products are properly sealed and packaged.
Understand how ingredients are stored, labelled, and packed.
Understand basic baking methods including Creaming, Rub In, Hot Milk, Blind Bake, and All in One.
Have knowledge of baking bakery items including croissants, pies, bread, cakes, muffins, and cookies.
Clean, assemble, and disassemble machines correctly, including food processors, scales, planetary mixers, and stick blenders.
Mould and scoop bakery items such as bread and chocolate chip cookies.
Fold dough well into different shapes and sizes.
Demonstrate creativity and artistry in shaping dough.
Demonstrate consistency in producing good quality products and speed.
Perform relevant tasks in line with trained standard operating procedures to minimize risks of harm to self, others, or property.
Report all incidents or accidents observed at the workplace to the Team Leader.
Achieve all set annual Performance Development Plan objectives as agreed with the Team Leader.
Participate in development programs and training to support continued personal development.
Display a positive attitude and work harmoniously with colleagues to support an effective team working environment.

Key Accountabilities

Adhere to work schedules and performance criteria.
Perform all work in line with trained SOPs and OSH procedures.
Deliver products to customers in full and on time.
Achieve satisfactory scores in customer quality assessment measures.
Complete processes correctly the first time without corrective action or rejection.
Maintain appropriate incident and accident rates for the department.
Achieve all Performance Development Plan objectives agreed with the Team Leader.
Share suggestions and ideas.
Ensure 100% delivery in full and on time of manufactured items.
Keep customer quality complaints within agreed targets.

Qualifications and Experience

School Leaving Certificate.
Diploma in Food Science or Food Manufacturing is desirable.
At least 1 year’s experience in food manufacturing.

Special Conditions of Employment

Flexibility to travel.
Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift.
Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
