Position Details

Position: ICU/HDU Coordinator.
Employer: Mater Misericordiae Hospital.
Location: Nairobi, Kenya.

Main Duties

Supervise and ensure the efficient running of the ICU/HDU department at the main hospital.
Coordinate and direct the daily patient care operations of the Critical Care Unit.
Analyse workloads and skill requirements to meet patient care needs.
Assess staff competencies and make patient care assignments.
Delegate appropriate tasks to appropriate personnel, consistent with legal and professional guidelines and departmental standards.
Maintain clear communications with the Clinical Nurse Manager regarding unit needs and incidents.
Assist with patient care as needed.
Identify appropriate internal controls for the department and provide mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.
Provide second on-call coverage.
Coordinate morbidity and mortality meetings and Multi-Disciplinary Meetings.
Ensure the unit is well equipped with well-functioning equipment.
Prepare the budget and ensure procurement of capital items to specifications and adequate supplies for the unit at all times.
Carry out performance appraisals for department clinical staff.
Ensure the competence and efficiency of staff in terms of knowledge, skills and attitude.
Manage staff welfare, training and development, in liaison with the HR department.
Create a work environment that fosters a high degree of personal integrity, team spirit and outstanding performance standards.
Report on clinical issues to the Director of Medical Services as required.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the department and provide reports as required.
Perform any other duty assigned.

Required Qualifications

The candidate should hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MB ChB).
Have a minimum of 3 years as a Senior Medical Officer.
Masters training will be an added advantage.
Have a minimum of two years ICU or Critical Care experience.
Have experience in the clinical management of pediatric and adult cardiac cases.
Have the ability to train and develop staff.
The candidate should have supervisory experience.
Be registered with KMPDC with a valid practicing license.
