Rongo University is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Pharmaceutical Technologist I. The successful candidate will support pharmaceutical services at the University Health Unit through dispensing medication, inventory management, patient counselling, stock control and supervision of pharmaceutical technologist interns.

Key Responsibilities

Scrutinize patients' treatment sheets and prescriptions for appropriate drug selection, dosage accuracy, drug interactions and route of administration.
Provide drug information to patients, clinical officers, nurses and other medical staff.
Ensure timely and accurate posting of dispensed drugs for billing purposes.
Place orders for stock replenishment to maintain optimal pharmacy stock levels.
Participate in regular monitoring of drug expiry dates.
Compound, repackage and dilute drugs according to established guidelines.
Counsel patients to promote adherence to prescribed drug therapy.
Participate in stock taking exercises and explain stock variances.
Train and supervise pharmaceutical technologist interns.
Enter prescription orders into the computer system and prepare appropriate labels.
Prepare periodic management reports.
Receive drugs and verify them against stock transfer printouts.
Perform stock counts and stock movement analysis.
Ensure proper shelving of pharmaceutical items.
Perform any other duties assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized medical training institution or other recognized training institution.
At least six years post qualification work experience.
Valid registration certificate from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
Computer literacy.
