Ol Pejeta Conservancy is inviting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Chief Conservation Officer. The successful candidate will lead the conservancy's conservation strategy, oversee biodiversity protection, wildlife health, community development, anti-poaching efforts, research, technology integration, and conservation operations.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement comprehensive conservation strategies focused on biodiversity, habitat restoration, and climate resilience.
Oversee wildlife health and endangered species programs, including breeding, reintroductions, translocations, habitat restoration, and environmental enrichment projects.
Collaborate with international organisations to exchange best practices and secure support for species conservation.
Oversee the operations of the Research Centre and coordinate external research institutions.
Integrate appropriate conservation technologies and data-driven approaches into conservation decision-making and operational efficiency.
Develop and implement community engagement and development strategies.
Build and maintain strong relationships with local communities and promote human-wildlife coexistence.
Oversee community development projects and ensure they are delivered on time, within budget, and achieve their objectives.
Collaborate with the fundraising team to develop funding proposals and maintain relationships with donors.
Represent Ol Pejeta Conservancy at national, regional, and international conservation forums, conferences, and policy discussions.
Identify and address threats including poaching, habitat degradation, disease, and climate change.
Oversee wildlife monitoring, security operations, and anti-poaching efforts.
Build, lead, mentor, and manage multidisciplinary conservation and community development teams.
Establish systems to monitor and evaluate conservation and community development programs against defined objectives and KPIs.
Prepare timely reports for stakeholders, donors, and partners.
Perform any additional duties assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Conservation Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
PhD in Conservation Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field is an added advantage.
Minimum of 12 years of experience in conservation management.
At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role.
Proven experience in biodiversity protection, community-based conservation, and anti-poaching strategies.
Specialised training in wildlife management or ecological research is highly desirable.
