Child Rights African Network (CRAN) is seeking a dedicated and detail oriented candidate for the position of Assistant Legal and Programmes Officer. The successful candidate will support CRAN's legal, programmes and advocacy work while working closely with and assisting the Legal and Policy Advisor, East Africa.

Key Responsibilities

Support the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of CRAN's child rights, access to justice and advocacy programmes.
Conduct legal research and policy analysis on child rights and child protection issues, preparing legal opinions, briefs, memoranda and reports.
Support the identification and development of partnerships with donors, civil society organizations, government institutions and other stakeholders.
Assist in coordinating conferences, workshops and advocacy initiatives, including drafting concept notes, policy briefs and communication materials.
Conduct client intake interviews and follow up meetings using child friendly, trauma informed and rights based approaches.
Maintain accurate legal and case documentation in line with CRAN's record management procedures and confidentiality standards.
Prepare referrals and supporting documentation for pro bono advocates, legal aid providers and partner organizations.
Monitor and follow up on assigned legal cases, updating progress within the CRAN Management System (CMS).
Represent CRAN at stakeholder meetings, legal forums and community engagements, and prepare activity reports.
Monitor emerging child rights trends and legal developments, providing recommendations for advocacy or policy responses.
Support the development and preparation of donor proposals, project reports and advocacy publications.
Ensure compliance with CRAN's Child Safeguarding Policy and all applicable laws and conventions on children's rights.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB).
Admission to the bar is an added advantage.
1 to 2 years of relevant experience, ideally within a non profit or civil society organization.
Demonstrated skill in developing proposals, including donor and project proposals.
Strong legal research, writing and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
Sound understanding of child protection frameworks, including the Constitution of Kenya, the Children Act and relevant international conventions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with case management systems is an added advantage.
High level of integrity, confidentiality and commitment to child safeguarding.
