The Senior Evaluation Specialist will lead complex international development evaluations across Africa and other regions, supporting evidence based decision making for development programs. The role involves designing and implementing mixed methods research, managing distributed research teams, overseeing field data collection, and presenting evaluation findings to senior stakeholders including United Nations agencies, government institutions, and donor organizations. The position is primarily remote with periodic in person collaboration in Nairobi and frequent international field deployments.

Contract Type: Permanent employment.
Location: Remote role with preference for Nairobi based candidates and periodic in person meetings in Nairobi.
Travel: International fieldwork representing about 30 to 40 percent of working time and up to 60 percent during peak periods.
Languages: Fluent English and French required.
Reports to: Managing Director or Head of Research.
Salary: KES 350,000 to 450,000 gross per month depending on experience.
Start Date: As soon as possible.

Lead the design and implementation of evaluations across the project lifecycle including baseline, midline, endline, and final evaluations using recognized evaluation frameworks.
Develop evaluation matrices, theories of change, sampling strategies, and performance measurement frameworks.
Design and program quantitative survey tools using digital platforms such as KoboToolbox, ODK, and SurveyCTO.
Conduct quantitative analysis including descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, and regression modelling to support evaluation findings.
Integrate gender responsive, conflict sensitive, and intersectional approaches into evaluation design and implementation.
Lead and participate in primary data collection activities including key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and survey supervision.
Conduct data quality audits during fieldwork including daily data review, enumerator monitoring, and validation checks.
Oversee piloting and refinement of data collection tools to ensure cultural relevance and linguistic accuracy in English and French.
Manage and mentor distributed research teams across multiple countries and time zones.
Design and deliver training for enumerators, partner staff, and national researchers on research methods, digital data collection, and ethical research practices.
Lead integrated analysis combining qualitative and quantitative data using triangulation across sources.
Produce high quality evaluation reports, policy briefs, factsheets, and stakeholder presentations.
Facilitate stakeholder workshops and validation sessions to present findings and strengthen evidence based programming decisions.
Master’s degree in evaluation, social sciences, international development, statistics, public policy, or a related field. A PhD is an added advantage.
At least eight years of progressive experience designing and leading evaluations in international development or humanitarian contexts.
Minimum of three years experience in a senior or lead evaluator role.
Full professional fluency in English and French with the ability to design tools, conduct interviews, and produce reports in both languages.
Experience using qualitative analysis software such as NVivo or similar tools.
Strong experience conducting qualitative methods including interviews, focus group discussions, and thematic analysis.
Proven experience managing research teams remotely across multiple countries.
Demonstrated experience delivering training and capacity building for enumerators and research partners.
Experience conducting systematic data quality audits during field data collection.
Ability to present evaluation findings to diverse audiences including community stakeholders, donors, and international organizations.
Willingness to travel internationally for extended fieldwork deployments.
Experience working in francophone Sub Saharan Africa, particularly in conflict affected regions such as the Sahel or Great Lakes region.
Familiarity with international evaluation frameworks including UNEG norms and standards and ALNAP evaluation criteria.
Knowledge of digital data collection platforms including KoboToolbox, ODK, or SurveyCTO.
Experience publishing evaluation reports or research outputs in relevant thematic areas.
Advanced quantitative analysis skills including experience using Python for data analysis.
Additional language skills such as Arabic, Swahili, Somali, or Portuguese are an advantage.
