The Engineering Technician I Automotive role is a skilled technical position within the County Government of Machakos focused on maintenance, inspection, and repair of motor vehicles and plant equipment. The officer operates in mechanical and electrical functions, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and compliance of automotive systems through diagnostics, servicing, and evaluation.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnose and repair faults in automotive systems including engines, transmission, brakes, and fuel systems.
Perform preventive, scheduled, and corrective maintenance of motor vehicles.
Test vehicles before and after repairs to ensure proper functionality.
Inspect vehicle components and systems for compliance with quality standards.
Conduct pre delivery inspections of vehicles and machinery.
Inspect garages and assess vehicles for repair or disposal decisions.
Carry out driver suitability tests and vehicle valuation.
Investigate and assess accident vehicles for repair and reporting.
Service, install, and maintain electrical systems and components in vehicles and plant equipment.
Diagnose electrical faults and install wiring and communication systems.
Maintain records and inventory related to automotive engineering services.
Qualifications
At least six years relevant work experience, including three years as Engineering Technician II Automotive.
Technician Part III in Automotive Engineering or a Diploma in Automotive Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
Valid driving license.
Registration as a Candidate Engineering Technician with the Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board.
Proficiency in computer applications.
Demonstrated merit and strong work performance.
Key Competencies
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills in automotive systems.
Knowledge of both mechanical and electrical vehicle systems.
Attention to detail in inspection, testing, and reporting.
Ability to work independently and supervise technical processes.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
